The McCurdys

First-generation farmers

Matthew, Joe, William and Laura McCurdy moved to the Spring Creek valley near Red Wing, Minnesota, in 2020 after nearly a decade of searching for a place with land to call home. Nearly every morning one of us will look outside and say “Wow, I can’t believe we get to live here!”

This land is truly special and we’re grateful beyond words to call this magical place our home.

Laura McCurdy

Laura grew up in nearby Pine Island, Minnesota and after moving all around the country with Joe, she’s quite happy to have found a “forever” home back in Goodhue County. Besides being the prime mover at McCurdy Farm, Laura operates a coaching business called Go Bravery, practices Tai Kwon Do, teaches trumpet to band kids, and homeschools our boys.

Joe McCurdy

Joe grew up in rural Washington state and moved to Minnesota for a job opportunity in 1998. He met Laura a year later, and somehow Minnesota started to seem a lot warmer. He’s always wanted to return to country life and Laura won his heart all over again when she agreed to start farming together.

Besides joyfully working on farm projects and his favorite farm activities of cutting hay and running the sawmill, Joe owns and operates a hospitality management business in the Twin Cities.

Matthew

Matthew has jumped into farm life with both feet. He manages our cattle herd, raises ducks and geese and is our resident hunter and trapper. He holds a 2nd-degree black belt in GTMA Tai Kwon Do, plays trumpet, guitar and bass and knows how to build a really strong fence.

William

Will might be the hardest-working 8-year-old you’ll meet. He loves business and has become quite the farm-based entrepreneur. He raises meat rabbits, sells vegetable and flower starts, herbs and numerous crafts - he’s always ready to try a new business idea.

Will’s also a great help with the chickens and has earned the nickname “cowboy” for his knack for moving the cattle even though they can see right over him. He loves foraging mushrooms and learning all he can about them. He can often be found at the Red Wing Farmer’s Market talking the ears off of the mushroom guys.
